29 December 2018, UAE: United Eastern Medical Services (UEMedical) and HealthPlus Fertility Centers announced that 14 couples got pregnant under their IVF Year of Giving Initiative which was launched in 2017 after undergoing IVF treatment in 2018 at HealthPlus Fertility Centers, part of UEMedical.
Mr. Mohammed Ali Al Shorafa Al Hammadi, CEO and Managing Director of UEMedical in Abu Dhabi said, “An amount of AED 1.5 Million Dirhams was pledged for this initiative. The initiative included providing free treatment for 25 couples; some of which already started their treatment cycles in 2018 at HealthPlus Fertility Centers. Results have shown that 14 ladies got pregnant, some of which have already delivered, while others are still undergoing treatment.”
“This 1.5 Million Dirhams IVF Initiative embraced 25 couples, who were childless and had limited income. A committee was formed to review all applicants based on multiple socio-economic factors as well as the couple’s medical condition. The couples chosen were then screened and were provided with the most appropriate treatment for their infertility problem using the latest technologies by our IVF experts at HealthPlus Fertility Centers in Abu Dhabi and Dubai in 2018,” Mr. Al Shorafa added. “At UEMedical, we have always been keen to support and give back to the community and have adapted several initiatives under our corporate social responsibility strategy since the group was established; and in 2017 and 2018, we have decided to double our efforts in line with the Year of Giving. We are indeed proud to witness the positive results today.”
Mr. Majd Abu Zant, CEO of HealthPlus Network of Specialty Centers, part of UEMedical, said “UEMedical covered the cost for the treatment necessary for the 25 couples within this initiative in 2018. Each case was evaluated carefully to determine the most suitable treatment plan by our IVF experts achieving the best possible clinical outcomes. HealthPlus Fertility Centers achieve success rates of almost 50%, which means one in every 2 couples will have a positive outcome. This places us amongst the top performing fertility units when compared to countries like UK, US and Australia. It is worth mentioning that HealthPlus is amongst the largest in the Middle East and has performed more than 3000 infertility treatments last year in its Abu Dhabi branch alone. This number is expected to increase significantly, in light of the increasing demand for our services.”
Dr. Walid Sayed, Group Medical Director and Fertility (IVF) Consultant at HealthPlus Fertility Centers said, “Most of the cases in the initiative were married for more than 5 years, while some exceeded 8 years. These couples underwent infertility and IVF treatments several times previously in different centers but unfortunately did not succeed.”
Dr. Wallid added, “Some of our Year of Giving cases at HealthPlus were a 42-year-old lady and a 35-year-old lady who both delivered at Danat Al Emarat Hospital, part of our UEMedical group, a few weeks ago. Some of the cases we had also required surgical procedures for the husband, which was performed by our andrologists. The 25 cases were treated under the care of 7 of our IVF and fertility experts, and we are indeed so happy for the 14 couples.”
“At HealthPlus Fertility Centers in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, the latest technologies in diagnosing and treating the cases were used, as well as genetics testing when needed to avoid any possible genetic diseases in the embryo. Treatment cycles could usually take up to several months from assessment, diagnosis and treatment to performing the IVF cycle,” Dr Walid concluded.
