21 April 2018, UAE: The Conference Sheds Light on Psychological Problems, Obesity and Risks of Random Use of Antibiotics
Organized by Danat Al Emarat Hospital for Women & Children, HealthPlus Network of Specialty Centers and Moorfields Eye Hospital Abu Dhabi, the First Primary Care Conference will be held on 27 April 2018 at Dusit Thani Hotel in Abu Dhabi. Topics will include family medicine, ophthalmology, obstetrics & gynecology, pediatrics, surgery, mental health and more.
Mr. Mohammed Ali Al Shorafa Al Hammadi, CEO & MD of United Eastern Medical Services (UEMedical), said “This conference comes in line with the goals and efforts of the Department of Health in Abu Dhabi, securing the provision of high quality care in Abu Dhabi, improving the quality of family medicine and primary care set ups. Last January, Department of Health in Abu Dhabi introduced new standards for the licensing of primary care providers, which aims to provide patients with the best family healthcare and create new communication channels between family physicians and patients. And through this conference, our guest speakers will focus on the importance of the collaboration between physicians; aiming to spread awareness about family medicine and primary care centers, and to provide primary care physicians with the latest medical updates on the treatment and management of different diseases and when to transfer cases that require specialists’ attention.”

Dr. Samina Ahmad, Chair of the conference, Head of Family Medicine Department at Danat Al Emarat Hospital for Women & Children and HealthPlus Family Clinics in Abu Dhabi said, “The conference is mainly designed for primary care physicians and allied health professionals from nurses to technicians and pharmacists as we shed light on the important role of family medicine in the management of chronic diseases, women and children healthcare and screening, prevention and early detection of diseases, as well as our role in health awareness and education amongst the community. The conference is expected to host 150 individuals and is accredited for 7 hours of Continuous Medical Education by the Department of Health Abu Dhabi.”
Dr. Samina also clarified that the conference will concentrate on common health problems seen by primary care and family medicine physicians. Dr. Sadoon Sami Sadoon, Medical Director, Obstetrics & Gynecology and Minimally Invasive Surgery Consultant at Danat Al Emarat Hospital will present a paper about the common diseases in women; while Dr. Islam Sidky, Obstetrics & Gynecology and Minimally Invasive Surgery Consultant will discuss endometriosis and pelvic pain symptoms in women. From pediatric care side, Dr. Hani Rifai, ENT Specialist at HealthPlus Children’s Specialty Center and Danat Al Emarat Hospital will present a paper about ENT emergency cases, while Dr. Iviano Ossuetta, Head of Neonatology & Chair of Children’s Services at Danat Al Emarat Hospital will present a paper about decoding crying infants. Management of diabetes in primary care will be also a topic presented by Dr. Mahmoud BenBaraka, Diabetes and Endocrinology Consultant at HealthPlus Diabetes & Endocrinology Center; and surgical options in obesity management will be presented by Dr. Hazem Al Momani, General Surgery and Bariatric Surgery Consultant at Danat Al Emarat Hospital.
From ophthalmology angle, Dr. Hamed Anwar, Corneal and Refractive Surgery Consultant at Moorfields Eye Hospital Abu Dhabi will speak about common eye problems like the red eye, which is a very common problem seen by general practitioners.
Dr. Shweta Uppal, Head of Lab Services at Danat Al Emarat Hospital and HealthPlus Centers will present a paper about the accuracy of lab tests, and Dr. Samina Ahmad will also talk about resistance of microbes and risk of misusing antibiotics, a topic that’s vital for GPs and family medicine practitioners.
Last by not least, Dr. Rasha Abbas, Psychiatry Consultant will talk about mental health problems in primary care, and the right to time to refer a patient to a psychiatrist. The conference is organized by MCO exhibitions and conferences.
